SPETSES/TRIFID NEBULA 7000 BC- 2016 AD
"It is the stars that are a kind of conscience- an infinite store of images of
all things that have passed- as light traverses the universe pictures of the
past are carried through space and time on the spectrum of light."
The first work of the series, "Light years", is "Spetses/Trifid Nebula c7000 BC- 2014 AD". The piece is composed of two images. The first is a photograph of how Spetses, (located in the Peloponneses), looks from the perspective of the Trifid Nebula- about 8500 light years away from earth.
The island is as it would have been in the late Neolithic period, when people inhabited caves of the Peloponnese around 8500 years ago. The second Photograph is an image of the Trifid Nebula, also seen as it looks from the perspective of 8500 light years away- from the earth's point of view today.
The image of Spetses is a highly condensed digitally constructed picture that gives the impression of being dense enough to enter- that there are three dimensions beyond the surface that could be expanded into the scale of real life. The digital information has been transferred onto a negative plate and printed on light-sensitive photographic rag paper in the tradition of photography. This original form of photographic process more apply reflects the image as residue of light (as opposed to digital reproduction).
